Skill Development and Placement Program for Youths with Disabilities

Skill Development and Placement (SDP) Program is a collaborative effort by DFID and SPARC India.
     
The SDP program has the following main features:
  • It is a residential program for youths with disability (YwDs)  
  • Each batch would consist of 25 YwDs
  • The duration of the training program would be 3 months for a batch  
  • Focus on life skills and technical skills pertaining to specific domains  
  • Life skills would comprise of English speaking, personality development courses, etc.  
  • Technical skills would be based on a chosen industry/trade

The following trades are proposed for the training program (along with certification):

  • IT/ ITES/BPO  
  • Data Entry Operator  
  • Retail   
  • The participants for the program are selected through a 3-stage process. During the first stage, the participants are interviewed to understand their background and their aspirations. After the interviews are completed, the applications are screened.
  • These participants then undergo an aptitude and knowledge test during the next stage to identify the best fit for them in terms of industry/trade.  
  • The selected participants are then counseled for their respective career choices.  
  • The training modules prepared for the different courses are certified by reputed organizations and agencies.
  • The training program has a continuous assessment format and the performance of the participants is tracked through tests, informal observations and project exposure performance. At the end of the training, a final certification test is conducted. The participants who clear this test are awarded the certification of successful completion of the course.  
  • Job fairs are organized where organizations from the chosen trades are invited to offer employment to the trained participants.
  • Post-employment, the participants are tracked and necessary support and feedback mechanism is provided to the employers.
